Recently, my friend sent me an “.AMR” audio file through Bluetooth. The audio is pretty soft when I play it in my sleek Nokia mobile. However the same file is loud and clear in my friend’s Nokia. As such, I decide to convert the “.AMR” to “.WAV” or “.MP3” so that I can amplify the audio sound waves. A quick search for “.AMR” in Google generated an impressive result of 21,400,000. Wow! That has certainly made my eyes grow bigger. But alas, the results are not quite what I’m looking for.
Apparently, the acronym, AMR can mean several things; from the trustworthy American Medical Response to Intel's specification on motherboard design, Audio Modem Riser. Not mentioning that there’s an independent research company with similar name that provides advice for supply chain and IT executives. What I needed is audio coder/decoder related: Adaptive Multi-Rate.
After trying out a few audio converters, I found Mobile AMR converter which is just a GUI (Graphical User Interface) of Sony Ericsson AMR converter. The former offers a very easy-to-use and simple GUI that helps even the most amateur user whereas the latter is a MS-DOS command line interface application.
The Mobile AMR converter converts AMR files to wave files and vice-versa in a user-friendly way. It does the job quick and easy, and just as I planned to be. This useful and light program is developed by Miksoft with the file on disk only a mere 652 kb.
You can also use the software to archive your wave files into SP files and vice-versa. Direct conversion from MP3 to AMR files is not a problem too.
